1. Choose Tax Plan and the intake source
Open the tool selector at the top left and choose Tax Plan. In the editor, select Use Intake Form. Choose Continue from Previously Saved Form for an existing intake, or Start from a Blank Form for new work. Check the client and the intended planning period before reusing saved information.
The blank entry area includes Tax Plan Name, Client Full Name and Client Email. Give the plan a name you can recognize later. Confirm the recipient before using Send to Customer; selecting a blank form alone does not send it. Upload Documents is marked Coming Soon in this example.
2. Prepare the eight subject groups
Gather the facts below before the final review. These are subject groups, not the total number of screens in the intake.
| Subject group | What to prepare |
|---|---|
| Client Profile | Name, residence state, filing status and dependents. |
| Employment & Income | W-2 and 1099 context, income type and estimated prior-year net income. |
| Business Ownership | Entity names, types, states and status. |
| Real Estate | Residence, rentals, planned transactions and requested activity information. |
| Retirement & Investments | Account types, investments and amounts for the periods requested. |
| Recordkeeping & Audit Risk | Tracking method, business bank separation and prior audit history. |
| Tax Goals & Preferences | Strategy preference and cash available for investment. |
| Additional Inputs | Charitable contributions, childcare and HSA-related inputs. |
Answer the question for the period it names. A prior-year amount, a current-year estimate and an account balance are different facts. Flag information that still needs confirmation rather than silently replacing it with a guess.
3. Use Final Review to correct the inputs
At Final Review, read every group and use its Edit control to return to an item that needs correction. Check names, entity types, state, filing status and the periods attached to amounts before moving to strategy preferences.
Review related answers together. For example, the business described under ownership should agree with the income context you entered. Resolve an unexplained mismatch with the client or source records before relying on the draft. The captured review is a test example, not a recommended set of answers.
4. Separate readiness from generation
The reviewed intake includes a Generate Tax Plan action. Before using it, confirm the input set is ready and review any access or cost terms presented for that action. Then inspect the actual resulting state.
A history item labeled Draft, especially one showing zero strategies, is still a draft. A design preview containing sample savings is also not evidence of a generated client plan. If generation fails or leaves an unexpected result, record the plan name, attempt time and exact message for support; avoid sending the entire client intake by default.
5. Review a report before sharing it
- Confirm client, period, preparer and entity details.
- Replace unresolved placeholders and remove choices that were never resolved.
- Reconcile the summary with the strategy-level amounts and assumptions.
- Read each proposed action, timing and supporting explanation.
- Check page references, branding and the complete exported document.
Use the report-review sequence below as an editorial checklist. Strategy eligibility and tax conclusions still need professional review of the actual client facts and applicable rules.
Common questions
Can I upload documents instead of filling out intake?
The captured entry marks Upload Documents as Coming Soon. Use the available intake route rather than expecting an active upload workflow.
Are the eight subjects eight intake screens?
No. They are the eight groups shown in Final Review. The captured Final Review is labeled Step 10 of 11.
Does Draft with zero strategies mean the plan is complete?
No. Treat it as unfinished preparation. Inspect the actual generation result and report before sharing.
Should I copy the sample client’s answers?
No. Test answers explain the layout. Use the intended client’s verified facts and the period requested by each field.
